Welcome to the RDAMIW May/June eNews. I hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable Easter period. At the time of drafting this update, I have been in the CEO role for RDAMIW for a bit over four months. I would like to thank all those who have made me feel welcome, and engaged and involved me and RDAMIW in regional development and growth activities. It is refreshing to see the level of partnership and collaboration across our region within the Economic and Development sector. This focus on shared activity bodes well for the region’s future success in meeting growth, investment and development aspirations.

Beacon to connect Mackay businesses

Regional Development Australia Mackay Isaac Whitsunday (RDAMIW) has launched its latest venture, an online platform called Mackay Business Beacon. The custom-built platform is the first of its kind and will be piloted in the Mackay region to provide a vehicle for business professionals to learn about all the workshops, conferences, networking and business events in the region – in one spot.

Space Launch Facility MOU

We are at the dawn of a new space age, driven by a transition from government to commercial launch and satellite operations, and buoyed by $17.4 billion of investment in space start-ups over the last decade1. Globally, commercial launch revenue is dominated by Europe (45%), Russia (25%) and the USA (19%), with the remainder shared amongst China, Japan, India, Iran, Israel and North Korea.

RDA MIW is pleased to announce our new look and feel website which was launched yesterday.

October 2018 Newsletter

In recent weeks, RDA MIW were thrilled to see the Deputy Prime Minister, Michael McCormack announce that Mackay Cricket Association were successful in getting through to Stage 2 of the Regional Growth Fund (RGF) assessment process with their Harrup Park Sporting Facilities Project. The RGF was designed to provide grants of $10 million or more for major projects that support long-term economic growth and create jobs in regional areas.

In the last few days the region has had significant success in Round Two of the Australian Government’s Building Better Regions Fund with 3 regional proponents attracting funding of $95.5K from the Community Investments Stream and 7 regional proponents attracting funding of $14.9M from the Infrastructure Projects Stream.
