Do you have the ability to sell our region’s METS capability to the world?

In April 2019, Regional Development Australia Mackay Isaac Whitsunday (RDAMIW) helped to secure funding for the development of the MIW Mining Equipment Technical Services (METS) Export Hub, alongside Greater Whitsunday Alliance, Mackay Regional Council, Trade and Investment Queensland and Resource Industry Network. The funding was secured through the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science under the small and medium enterprises (SME) Export Hubs program. Other funding had been received from the Queensland State Government, the Local Buying Foundation and others.

The next stage of this project is to secure an Export Hub Manager to further this region’s export potential and successfully manage the MIW METS Export Hub Program for three years. This project role is full time, based in Mackay and funded until June 2022. 

The role as Export Hub Manager is to drive the success of the Export Hub and:

  • Identify existing export businesses and potential export ready participants 

  • Develop and implementation of a planned targeted export strategy for the MIW METS sector

  • Provide professional support and direction to METS businesses interested in export

  • Coordinate a current and future international market analysis specific to the opportunities that match our region

  • Coordinate export specific training, market intelligence and other export skills development

  • Promote the MIW METS brand as innovative, responsive and globally competitive

  • Promote the MIW METS sector as a centre for world’s best practice in global resource supply chains.

The MIW METS Export Hub manager will be required to undertake other duties, including work outside of traditional hours as activities occur, and travel both national and internationally as required.

Skills and qualifications that are essential to the job include:

  • Extensive experience in business development role, coupled with the confidence to facilitate the creation of commercially successful regional, national and international business opportunities for hub participants

  • Demonstrated ability to build solid relationships with business owners (and their representatives) and regional stakeholders

  • Ability to engage and communicate with people from varied backgrounds and at different levels of authority

  • Advanced computer literacy across a range of applications including Microsoft Office, Outlook, including database creation and management

  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to work closely within a tight knit small team and Project Advisory Group

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including sound writing and oral presentation skills, the ability to relate to people at all levels and a natural aptitude for relationship building both at an individual and organizational level.
